Chennai, July 22:
The ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Tuesday reiterated its strong opposition to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), demanding its complete scrapping and greater autonomy for states over medical education.
In a statement, the party said its position was “uncompromising,” arguing that the centralised entrance test undermines state rights and puts students at a disadvantage. It also called for education to be shifted from the Concurrent List to the State List of the Constitution, a move that would give states full control over education policy.
The party took an indirect swipe at the opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), accusing it of failing to fulfil past promises to abolish NEET.
TVK’s renewed push comes against the backdrop of continuing protests by students across the State, which have intensified the political debate in Tamil Nadu over the future of NEET and the balance of powers between the Union and State governments in education.
