Chennai, July 25:
Left parties in Tamil Nadu have condemned the alleged custodial death of a 24-year-old man in Thoothukudi, calling for urgent police reforms and a fair probe.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) has demanded a CB-CID inquiry and action against the police personnel involved. The Communist Party of India (CPI) highlighted repeated custodial deaths as a sign of weak accountability.
CPI leader M Veerapandian said existing safeguards and court guidelines are not being followed, and urged the government to implement strong police reforms.
The incident has revived memories of the Sathankulam custodial deaths, with leaders warning that little has changed since then.
