New Delhi, July 27:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced the formation of a high-powered task force to recommend comprehensive reforms in India’s examination system, amid growing concerns over paper leaks and irregularities.
In a video message shared on X, the Prime Minister said the Centre has been taking multiple steps to safeguard the future of students, asserting that those who “played with the future of students” are now behind bars. He emphasised that strict action will continue against individuals involved in exam-related malpractices.
Highlighting immediate measures, Modi said the government has introduced fast-track courts to ensure speedy justice in cases linked to examination fraud. He also noted that a new law with stringent provisions is being planned for introduction in Parliament to tackle such irregularities more effectively.
Stressing the importance of systemic change, the Prime Minister underlined the need for long-term reforms aimed at enhancing transparency, reliability, and efficiency in the examination process. He added that technology would play a key role in modernising the system and preventing future lapses.
The task force will be headed by Nandan Nilekani and comprises a diverse group of experts, including former ISRO Chairman S. Somnath, former Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti, former Education Secretary Anita Karwal, and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena.
