Chennai, July 27:
A 17-year-old boy who was undergoing treatment at Kalaignar Centenary Super Speciality Hospital in Guindy has died, with his family alleging medical negligence.
The deceased, Darshan, a resident of Velachery, was injured in a road accident on July 16 near Kathipara after being hit by a metropolitan electric bus. He and his father, Ayyanarappan, were admitted to the hospital, where the father recovered, while the boy underwent bone surgery.
According to relatives, Darshan’s condition worsened later despite being stable initially, and they claimed doctors failed to provide proper care. Hospital authorities, however, stated that he died due to a lung infection. The incident has triggered grief and allegations from the family, who said the boy was set to join college after completing Class 12.
The boy’s father has released a video expressing anguish, alleging that doctors initially assured them of his son’s recovery but later failed to respond adequately when his condition deteriorated. He also claimed that the medical team did not provide timely intervention despite repeated requests from the family.
The incident has sparked concern among locals, with demands for a thorough inquiry into the circumstances leading to the teenager’s death. Authorities are expected to review the case, while the family continues to seek accountability over the alleged lapse in medical care.
