Chennai, Aug 4:
The first full Budget of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government will be presented in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on August 5 by Finance Minister Maria Wilson. The House will convene at 10 a.m., during which the Revised Budget Estimates for 2026–27 will be tabled.
During the previous DMK regime, an interim Budget had been presented ahead of the Assembly elections. Following the 17th Assembly elections, the TVK secured victory and formed the government. The first session of the new Assembly began on June 18 with the Governor’s address, while the motion of thanks was debated on June 19, 22 and 23. After Chief Minister Vijay’s reply, the House was adjourned without specifying a date.
Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar had earlier announced on July 21 that the Budget would be presented on August 5. He also stated that the Agriculture Budget will be tabled on August 6. A Business Advisory Committee meeting will be held after the Budget presentation to decide the duration of the session and other key matters. This will be followed by discussions on departmental demands for grants.
As this is the first Budget of the newly formed TVK government, Chief Minister Vijay has instructed officials to make it a comprehensive and impactful one. Throughout July, he held consultations with Ministers, Secretaries and senior officials. Departments were asked to submit details of ongoing schemes and election promises.
Based on these inputs and the State’s financial position, key schemes have been finalised for inclusion in the Budget. Among them, a major initiative titled “Vetri Tamilagam Vision Plan” is expected to be announced.
