Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj has officially announced that his much-anticipated 10th directorial venture is titled Dorothy, with the film set to have its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film will subsequently release in theatres on September 25.
Marking a significant milestone in Subbaraj’s career, Dorothy brings together an acclaimed creative team, most notably legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja, who is scoring the music. The film stars Keerthy Suresh in the lead, alongside Sananth and Rishikanth in pivotal roles.
The project is being produced by Karthik Subbaraj under his Dhammam Films banner, in collaboration with Guneet Monga and Aachin Jain of Sikhya Entertainment, and Jyoti Deshpande representing Jio Studios. The film’s technical crew includes cinematographer S. Thirunavukkarasu, editor Ganesh Siva, production designer Kumar Gangappan, and stunt choreographer Dinesh Subbarayan.
Sharing his excitement on social media, Subbaraj described Dorothy as a deeply personal project. He noted that it is a story he has wanted to bring to life for many years, calling the collaboration with Ilaiyaraaja a “dream-come-true moment.”
The announcement of Dorothy’s premiere at TIFF signals strong international interest in the film, positioning it for global recognition even before its theatrical release. TIFF is widely regarded as one of the most prominent film festivals in the world, often serving as a launchpad for critically acclaimed and award-winning films.
While plot details remain under wraps, the combination of Subbaraj’s distinctive storytelling style and Ilaiyaraaja’s music has already generated considerable anticipation among fans and industry observers. The casting of Keerthy Suresh, known for her versatile performances, further adds to the film’s appeal.
With a global premiere lined up and a strong creative team backing it, Dorothy is shaping up to be one of the most awaited Tamil films of the year. The film’s theatrical release on September 25 is expected to draw significant attention both in India and internationally.
