Chennai, Aug 7:
The Chennai Metro Rail Phase II project achieved a key milestone as the ‘Nilagiri’ Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) successfully reached Moolakadai Metro Station after completing an 819-metre underground tunnel from Madhavaram Highway Metro Station.
This breakthrough is part of the underground corridor connecting Madhavaram Milk Colony and Kellys (Purasawalkam), marking steady progress in expanding the city’s metro network. With this development, a total of 24 TBMs have now completed their assigned tunnelling work under Phase II.
The Chennai Metro Phase II project, one of India’s largest urban transport initiatives, aims to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time and provide sustainable public transportation for the growing population of Chennai.
Officials noted that continued progress in tunnelling and infrastructure works will accelerate the project timeline and bring significant benefits to daily commuters across the city.
