Chennai, Aug 7:
The Madurai District Cyber Crime Police have registered a case against environmental activist Piyush Manush following a complaint alleging circulation of false and inflammatory content on social media targeting national leaders.
Police said the complaint was filed by a BJP functionary from Madurai, accusing the individual operating an Instagram account in the name of Piyush Manush of sharing misleading information and making provocative statements against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The complainant alleged that the posts and videos were intended to create public unrest, spread hatred against the Union government and mislead people. It was also claimed that the individual made statements regarding a protest at Jantar Mantar, accusing police of attacking demonstrators.
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under multiple sections on August 4 and launched an investigation into the matter.
