Chennai, August 10, 2026:
The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a special resolution mandating that Tamil Thai Vazhthu (the invocation song in praise of Mother Tamil) be accorded top priority across all educational institutions, universities, and government offices in the state.
The resolution was introduced by Chief Minister Vijay during the Assembly session, which convened after a brief recess. Emphasizing the cultural and emotional significance of the Tamil language, the Chief Minister described Tamil as the very identity and lifeblood of the Tamil people.
âTamil is the dot on the forehead of India. What is a nation without Tamil and Tamilians? Tamil is not just a languageâit is a thought, an emotion, and a symbol of pride and power. If a single word can represent history, it is Tamil,â he said while presenting the resolution.
He further stressed that preserving the dignity of Tamil Thai Vazhthu is a matter beyond political differences and urged all members of the Assembly to support the motion in unity. He added that the government would not compromise on protecting the cultural heritage and respect associated with the invocation.
Following the Chief Ministerâs address, leaders and members from major political parties, including the DMK, AIADMK, Congress, and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, along with School Education Minister Rajmohan, voiced their support for the resolution. Speakers across party lines highlighted the importance of promoting Tamil language and culture in institutional spaces.
Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar later announced that the resolution had been passed unanimously, reflecting rare political consensus on a culturally significant issue.
The move is seen as a reaffirmation of Tamil Naduâs commitment to preserving and promoting its linguistic heritage, ensuring that Tamil Thai Vazhthu continues to hold a place of honor in public and institutional life across the state.
