Lokesh Kanagaraj has made a strong transition from director to lead actor, with his debut film DC crossing the Rs 100-crore mark worldwide within two weeks of its release.
Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the action thriller hit screens on August 7 and gained momentum through positive reviews and strong word of mouth. The film opened at nearly Rs 5 crore and crossed Rs 50 crore within five days.
Lokesh plays Devadas, an outcast who fights to protect an innocent family after they become victims of police brutality. Along with his companions, he attempts to evade a ruthless police officer, leading to a journey involving justice, redemption and unexpected relationships.
Lokesh’s performance has emerged as one of the film’s major talking points. Several prominent personalities, including Suriya, Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun, Soundarya Rajinikanth and Vignesh Shivan, have praised the film and his debut.
The film’s gritty action and Arun Matheswaran’s distinctive storytelling have also drawn appreciation. The director is known for films including Rocky, Saani Kaayidham and Captain Miller.
Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy play the female leads, while Aadukalam Naren, Thalaivasal Vijay and Kasthuri Raja appear in key roles. Anirudh Ravichander’s 15-track album has also received praise.

The success marks another milestone for Lokesh, who has built a strong box-office record as a director. After Maanagaram, he delivered hits including Master, Kaithi, Vikram and Leo, while his latest directorial venture was Coolie, starring Rajinikanth.
