Chennai, Aug 25:

Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Tuesday met Tamil Nadu Governor at Raj Bhavan in Chennai and submitted a petition seeking action against what he alleged were attempts to lure MLAs with money and positions.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Dhinakaran alleged that those in power were attempting to attract MLAs from opposition and other parties by offering them posts and financial benefits, describing such practices as against democratic principles.

He said elected representatives should not act against the mandate given by the people and urged the Governor to take steps to prevent such practices.

Dhinakaran also alleged that a “fake letter” claiming to be a letter of support from an AMMK MLA was submitted at the Governor’s residence on the night of May 8. He sought appropriate action over the alleged fake letter and the police complaint filed in connection with it.

He questioned the delay in the police investigation, pointing out that nearly 100 days had passed since his complaint regarding the alleged horse-trading and fake letter.

“Why was action taken so quickly in the case involving Uthangarai MLA Ilaiyaraaja, while no action has been taken on our complaint even after 100 days?” Dhinakaran asked.

He also sought an inquiry into the letter submitted by MLA Kamaraj and questioned the reasons behind the resignation of AIADMK MLAs.

Referring to AIADMK leader K.A. Sengottaiyan’s recent statement that 10 MLAs would newly join the party, Dhinakaran questioned the basis for such a move and said the matter should be examined.

Dhinakaran said he had urged the Governor to expose what he described as the “real face” behind the government’s claims of being a clean and transparent administration.

He further appealed for an immediate end to what he termed “horse-trading politics” in Tamil Nadu and called for appropriate action against those who allegedly act against their parties and the people’s mandate for money or positions.
