Chennai, Aug 25:

Tamil Nadu Industries Minister S.Keerthang on Tuesday told the State Assembly that a new Industrial Policy would be unveiled that would serve as the overarching instrument of the State’s ambition, drawing quality investment that creates high paying jobs, fostering technology transfer and research, strengthening exports, and driving balanced and sustainable development across every region.

Moving the demand for grants for her department, she said the Policy will place special focus on anchor industries such as petrochemicals and on the logistics infrastructure that underpins them, including dry ports, Inland Container Depot (ICD) and multi-modal logistics parks (MMLPs), alongside the emerging sectors that will define the years ahead, namely shipbuilding, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, Global Capability Centres and space technology.

Tamil Nadu’s industrial competitiveness of tomorrow will rest on how effectively the skill gap is identified and addressed. Dedicated verticals such as the Work Labs Cell at Guidance will draw industry, technical institutions and universities into closer collaboration, aligning curriculum and research with the evolving needs of the industry.

To strengthen the institutional framework for investment facilitation and ensure timely resolution of issues affecting major investments, the Government has proposed the establishment of the Tamil Nadu Investment Promotion Commission which will ensure focused monitoring and enable coordinated resolution of inter-departmental issues to ensure that strategic investments progress in a timely manner.

She said Tamil Nadu’s investment ecosystem continues to perform, with the NITI Aayog Investment Friendliness Index 2026 recognising the State as a leading investment destination and ranking it 3rd among States and Union Territories in the Top Performer category.

The Government will build on this strong performance by identifying the remaining gaps and implementing targeted measures to position Tamil Nadu at the top of the ranking.
