Chennai, Aug 25:
Hundreds of DMDK workers, fans and members of the public paid tribute to late actor and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founder Vijayakanth at his memorial in Koyambedu on Tuesday on the occasion of his 75th birth anniversary.
Party workers and admirers began arriving at the memorial in large numbers to offer floral tributes and remember the popular actor-politician, fondly known as “Captain”.
The birth anniversary was also celebrated at the DMDK headquarters, where sweets were distributed to party workers and visitors. An elaborate traditional feast was organised for cadres and members of the public who came to pay homage to the late party founder.
As part of the birth anniversary celebrations, Vijayakanth’s son and actor Shanmuga Pandian inaugurated a free eye-check-up camp for the public at the party headquarters.
Several film personalities also visited Vijayakanth’s memorial to pay their respects. Character actor M.S. Bhaskar, actor and former DMDK functionary Meesai Rajendran, along with several television actors and artistes, were among those who paid tribute.
The large turnout at the memorial reflected the enduring affection and admiration for Vijayakanth, who enjoyed a massive following both as a leading Tamil film star and as the founder of the DMDK.
