Chennai, Aug. 26:
The Tamil Nadu government will conduct a special fingerprint registration camp at all ration shops across the State on August 29 to complete the electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) verification process for eligible family cardholders.
The special camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at all fair price shops in Tamil Nadu.
The exercise is being carried out under the National Food Security Act, 2013, under which Aadhaar details of beneficiaries holding Priority Household and Antyodaya Anna Yojana family cards are required to be verified through biometric authentication.
The Centre had directed States to carry out fingerprint-based eKYC verification for all beneficiaries linked to electronic family cards. Tamil Nadu has been conducting the exercise since October 2023 to ensure that eligible beneficiaries complete the verification process without difficulty.
According to the latest official figures, 96.21 per cent of eKYC verification work relating to Priority Household family cards has already been completed.
The August 29 special camp is aimed at taking the exercise to 100 per cent completion.
Family cardholders whose fingerprint verification has not yet been completed have been urged to visit their respective ration shops and complete the biometric eKYC process during the camp.
Officials said the special drive would help beneficiaries who were unable to complete the procedure during earlier registration camps.
