Chennai is set to receive a major road infrastructure boost with a proposed Rs 400-crore elevated triangular corridor connecting Central, Koyambedu and Kathipara, a project aimed at easing traffic congestion on some of the city’s busiest stretches.
The proposed corridor is expected to improve connectivity between key transport and commercial hubs and provide motorists with an alternative route through heavily congested areas.
Central Chennai, Koyambedu and Kathipara are among the cityâs most important traffic nodes, linking railway stations, bus terminals, residential neighbourhoods, commercial centres and major arterial roads.
The triangular elevated road project is intended to streamline vehicle movement between these locations and reduce pressure on existing surface roads.
Traffic congestion has remained a major challenge for Chennai, particularly during peak hours, with growing vehicle numbers placing increasing strain on the cityâs road network.
The proposed infrastructure project is expected to complement other transport initiatives, including Metro Rail expansion, suburban rail improvements and road development works.
Once implemented, the elevated corridor could significantly improve travel time between Central Chennai, Koyambedu and the Kathipara junction area, one of the cityâs busiest interchanges.
The Rs 400-crore proposal underlines the continuing push for large-scale infrastructure solutions to address Chennai’s long-term mobility requirements.
Detailed planning, alignment studies, land requirements and traffic assessments are expected to play a key role before the project moves towards implementation.
