Chennai, Aug 28:
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption has reportedly detected unaccounted cash and suspicious digital transactions worth about Rs 118 crore during surprise checks, bringing renewed focus on alleged irregular financial dealings.
The checks were carried out as part of vigilance action to identify unexplained cash holdings and questionable money transfers. Investigators are examining transactions, including those routed through Google Pay and other digital payment platforms.
Officials are expected to scrutinise the source, destination and purpose of the transactions to determine whether they involve unaccounted money, corruption-linked payments or other violations.
The detection of large-value digital transactions highlights the increasing use of electronic payment platforms in financial dealings and the need for stronger monitoring of suspicious transfers.
Further investigation is likely to focus on tracing the beneficiaries, establishing the money trail and verifying whether the transactions were supported by legitimate business or personal records.
The DVAC action is part of the agency’s continuing efforts to identify disproportionate assets, unaccounted wealth and suspected financial irregularities involving public servants and other individuals under its jurisdiction.
