VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Thursday called for responsible conduct by legislators and said the Tamil Nadu Assembly should function as a forum for meaningful and constructive debate.
Speaking to reporters, Thirumavalavan said members of the House must approach their responsibilities with seriousness and contribute to discussions that serve the interests of the public.
He said there was a general expectation that Assembly proceedings should be constructive. Recalling his recent meeting with Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, Thirumavalavan said the Chief Minister too had expressed the desire for meaningful debates in the House.
The VCK leader said every legislator had a responsibility to uphold the dignity of the Assembly and participate in debates with a sense of accountability.
His remarks came against the backdrop of recent exchanges and disruptions during Assembly proceedings, with political leaders increasingly stressing the need to focus debates on governance and public concerns.
Thirumavalavan said constructive engagement by elected representatives would strengthen the democratic functioning of the Legislature and help ensure that important issues affecting people receive adequate attention.
