Chennai, Sept 2:
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami will chair a meeting of the party’s district secretaries at the AIADMK headquarters in Chennai on September 6, as the party steps up efforts to rebuild its organisation following its setback in the 2026 Assembly election.
The meeting will be held at the Puratchi Thalaivar MGR Maaligai on Avvai Shanmugam Salai in Royapettah at 10 am. All district secretaries have been asked to attend.
The meeting assumes significance as the party seeks to strengthen its grassroots machinery and assess the reasons behind its poor electoral performance.
Palaniswami has already undertaken district-wise reviews of the party’s performance. The September 6 meeting is expected to provide district-level leaders an opportunity to present their assessments of the election campaign, organisational weaknesses and the response among voters.
The leadership is likely to focus on strengthening the cadre base, improving coordination between the party headquarters and district units and identifying constituencies where the organisation requires greater attention.
The AIADMK is also facing increasing political pressure from the ruling TVK, with several former AIADMK leaders and functionaries moving towards the ruling party.
The district secretaries are expected to play a key role in the proposed organisational consolidation and in retaining the party’s traditional support base.
The meeting could also provide indications of the AIADMK’s political strategy in the coming months as Palaniswami seeks to project the party as the principal opposition to the TVK government.
