Chennai, Sept 2:
Tamil Nadu will introduce digital services for vehicle registration and driving licences across the State from September 15, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced in the Assembly on Wednesday.
Under the new system, vehicle owners will receive Digital Registration Certificates (RCs) online for newly registered vehicles. The initiative will also introduce “Anywhere Registration/Licensing” services, allowing people to access transport-related services irrespective of the office where they originally applied.
Applicants who pass their driving test will receive their Digital Driving Licence on the same day, with the facility being rolled out statewide from September 15.
The digital RCs and licences will carry QR codes that can be scanned for online verification by government departments and authorised institutions. In case the documents are lost or damaged, users will be able to download and print them again without applying for fresh physical copies.
