BENGALURU, Sept 3:
Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday praised women’s strength and sacrifices, saying Sita’s character in the Ramayana was greater than Rama’s, while calling for greater women’s participation in leadership.
Speaking at the fifth edition of ‘Together We Grow—International Women Entrepreneurship Day’ organised by the Ubuntu Consortium of Women Entrepreneurs Association, Shivakumar urged women entrepreneurs to take up leadership roles and contribute to Karnataka’s development.
He said women had demonstrated their ability to overcome challenges, manage resources and build successful enterprises. He stressed that women’s leadership was needed at every level, from gram panchayats to Parliament.
Referring to women’s reservation, Shivakumar said the 33 per cent reservation would create more opportunities for women to emerge as leaders. He also highlighted State government schemes such as Shakti, Gruha Lakshmi, Gruha Jyothi, Anna Bhagya and Yuva Nidhi.
He urged women entrepreneurs not to lose confidence and assured them of government support through access to finance, technology and markets.
Shivakumar also cited examples from the Ramayana and Mahabharata and praised women who had overcome personal and professional challenges to emerge as leaders.
