Minneapolis, Sept 3:
Two people were killed and three police officers injured in a shooting at a downtown Minneapolis apartment building on Wednesday afternoon, police said. The suspected gunman was also killed.
One victim died at the scene, while the second died after being taken to Hennepin County Medical Center. Two of the three injured officers suffered gunshot wounds, while all three were reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities initially said at least one person had been killed and six others injured. The hospital received seven patients in connection with the shooting.
Witnesses said they heard multiple gunshots and saw a man believed to be a resident of the apartment building carrying a handgun. One resident, Julius Bailey, said he heard a woman screaming and counted about eight shots before fleeing the area.
Police cordoned off the area and urged residents to stay away from the densely populated neighbourhood.
