Miami, Sept 7:
At least five people were killed and another five injured after an Amazon Prime Air cargo plane overshot a runway and crashed into vehicles while landing at Miami International Airport on Sunday.
The Boeing 767-300, operated by cargo carrier 21 Air for Amazon, was arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, when it overran the runway shortly before 2 pm local time. The aircraft struck several vehicles and caught fire. Three of the injured were reported to be in critical condition.
The crash forced the closure of the airport’s runways and taxiways, causing widespread flight disruptions. The identities of the five people killed had not immediately been released, and authorities were still determining whether the fatalities occurred aboard the aircraft or among people on the ground. The Federal Aviation Administration said the crash would be investigated.
