Chennai, Sept 9:
The balcony of a nearly 40-year-old building collapsed in the Seven Wells area of Chennai early Wednesday, damaging an autorickshaw and seven two-wheelers parked on the roadside. No one was injured in the incident.
The building, owned by Thomas of Pattinapakkam, is located on Kutti Maistry Street in Seven Wells. The structure, which is around four decades old, has four residential units on the first floor and four shops on the ground floor.
The balcony suddenly gave way in the early hours, crashing onto the vehicles parked outside. Following information, personnel from the Seven Wells police station rushed to the spot and cleared the debris. The damaged vehicles were subsequently removed from the area.
Based on a complaint from the vehicle owners, police registered a case and launched an inquiry into the incident. The authorities are also examining the condition of the old building and the circumstances that led to the balcony collapse.
