Russian drones and missiles struck Kyiv overnight, killing two people and injuring at least 10 others, according to Ukrainian authorities, ending a brief pause in attacks on the capital.
The overnight barrage targeted the Ukrainian capital and surrounding areas, with air-defence systems activated as drones and missiles approached the city.
The strikes caused damage in several parts of Kyiv, while emergency crews were deployed to affected locations. Authorities warned residents to remain in shelters during the attack.
The latest assault came amid intensified diplomatic activity involving the United States, Ukraine and Russia. US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have been holding talks with both sides in an effort to revive negotiations.
Despite the diplomatic efforts, fighting has continued, with Russia maintaining its attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and population centres.
The renewed strikes underscore the gap between diplomatic initiatives and developments on the battlefield, as Kyiv continues to seek stronger air-defence support from its Western allies.
