Tiruvallur, Sept 9:
Traffic congestion has worsened on the Tiruvallur-Red Hills High Road near North Raja Street, where a portion of the road has remained barricaded for nearly three weeks following sewage pipeline replacement work, causing hardship to motorists and residents.
The road is an important link to several markets, marriage halls and schools in the area. With the carriageway narrowed by the barricades, traffic has been moving slowly, particularly during the morning and evening peak hours, residents said.
The prolonged road closure has also led to dust-related problems. Loose soil piled along the roadside has been causing discomfort to pedestrians and residents, as well as people visiting the nearby District Health Office.
Tiruvallur Municipality Chairman P Udhaya Malar Pandian said the sewage pipeline replacement work had been completed. She said the road relaying work would commence within the next couple of days after obtaining the required permissions from the traffic police and the Highways Department.
Residents, meanwhile, urged the authorities to complete the relaying work without further delay and restore the full width of the road to ease congestion.
The prolonged barricading has added to traffic difficulties on a key road in Tiruvallur, with residents seeking faster coordination between the civic body and other departments to ensure that completed utility works are followed immediately by road restoration.
