Chennai, Sept 9:

The Hindu Munnani has made arrangements to install Ganesha idols at 1.5 lakh locations across Tamil Nadu for Ganesha Chaturthi, which will be celebrated on September 14. The organisation said preparations are under way across urban and rural areas of the State.
According to Hindu Munnani functionaries, idols will be installed at around 1.5 lakh locations across Tamil Nadu as part of the celebrations. The organisation has also issued instructions to its district-level organisers to ensure that the festivities are conducted without causing inconvenience to the public.
The organisation said steps were being taken to use idols made entirely from natural materials, avoiding chemical substances that could harm the environment. Arrangements are also being made for the immersion process and processions associated with the festival, it said.
In Chennai alone, idols are scheduled to be installed at 5,501 locations. Preparations for making large Ganesha idols are under way in Ernavur, while arrangements have also been made at several prominent parts of the city, including Valluvar Kottam, Triplicane, North Chennai and Kottivakkam.
The Hindu Munnani said special observances connected with the festival had already begun, with devotees undertaking a 10-day fast after tying the traditional sacred thread. The organisation is also coordinating arrangements for the celebrations and idol immersion across the State.
