Actor Karthi has described the Sardar franchise as one of the most important film series of his career, comparing its significance for him to what the Indian franchise means to veteran actor Kamal Haasan. Karthi made the remarks while promoting Sardar 2, which is set to hit theatres on September 10.
Q: What does Sardar mean to you?
A: There is a huge fan base for Sardar. Sardar is for me like how Indian is for Kamal Haasan. Sardar 2 is a very important film in my career, and I feel lucky that I got to work in a spy film like this.
Q: Why is Sardar 2 particularly important at this stage of your career?
A: Over the last three years, I have experimented with different kinds of films and different characters. Now, coming back with Sardar 2 is special because it takes me back to the spy-thriller space and continues a character that audiences have connected with.

A: The first film created a huge fan base. That response gives us confidence, but it also brings responsibility. When a film becomes successful and develops a strong following, the sequel has to live up to those expectations.

A: Definitely. I feel fortunate to have got an opportunity to work in a spy film like this. It is a genre that gives an actor the chance to explore action, suspense and different shades of a character.

A: Ultimately, I want the audience to enjoy the film in theatres. Sardar 2 is important to me, and I hope the audience gives the sequel the same love they gave the first film.
