The pre-release event of ‘Sigma’, the upcoming film marking the directorial debut of Jason Sanjay, was held in Salem on Tuesday. Produced by Lyca Productions’ Subaskaran, the film stars Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah in the lead roles and is scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on October 2.
Speaking at the event, Lyca Productions Head Tamil Kumaran said ‘Sigma’ was an important film not only for Jason Sanjay but also for the production house. He recalled that Lyca Productions’ first film was ‘Kaththi’ and said the company was proud to introduce Jason Sanjay as a director.
Tamil Kumaran praised Sanjay’s filmmaking and expressed confidence that ‘Sigma’ would perform well at the box office. He recalled that the production house had earlier introduced directors Nelson Dilipkumar with ‘Kolamaavu Kokila’ and Cibi Chakaravarthi with ‘Don’, and said he believed ‘Sigma’ could cross the Rs 100-crore mark.
Actor Faria Abdullah thanked Subaskaran and Tamil Kumaran and said the film was special to her. She praised Jason Sanjay’s passion for filmmaking and said audiences had been eagerly waiting for the film. She also said Sundeep Kishan would be seen in a role unlike anything he had portrayed earlier.
Lyricist Super Subu said Jason Sanjay had received a golden opportunity and had made good use of it. He praised the director for his patience and clarity while making the film and wished that ‘Sigma’ would become a blockbuster. He also thanked music composer Thaman and expressed hope that Sanjay would eventually take up acting as well.
Sundeep Kishan said films like ‘Sigma’ were rare and credited Jason Sanjay for giving him the opportunity to play the lead. He said Sanjay had worked hard to establish his own identity as a filmmaker. Describing ‘Sigma’ as a fun and energetic film for the younger generation, Kishan said he believed the film would emerge successful.
Kishan also said the first reason for the film’s success would be Jason Sanjay and the second would be Lyca Productions. He praised the entire team for working sincerely and expressed confidence that the film would appeal to audiences.
Jason Sanjay said he was happy that the promotional campaign for ‘Sigma’ began in Salem, as the team had shot in the city for nearly 10 days. He said the shoot had created many memorable moments for the team and thanked Subaskaran, Tamil Kumaran, Sundeep Kishan, Faria Abdullah, his crew and his family.
Explaining the idea behind the film’s title, Sanjay said everyone would have a ‘Sigma moment’ in life — a moment when a decision taken during a difficult situation changes the course of one’s life. He said that idea forms the core of ‘Sigma’ and urged audiences to watch the film in theatres and extend their support.
The film features Raju Sundaram, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt, Anbu Thasan and Yog Japee in important roles. Thaman has composed the music. ‘Sigma’, described as an action-adventure heist entertainer, is set for worldwide theatrical release on October 2.
