Chennai, Sept 11:
Congress MP Manickam Tagore has questioned the DMK’s silence over the findings of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), which, he said, exposed the Centre’s alleged bias against Tamil Nadu.
Tagore said the CAG findings raised important questions about the treatment meted out to Tamil Nadu by the Centre and wondered why the ruling DMK had not responded strongly to the issue.
He said the report deserved a detailed discussion as it concerned the State’s interests and the financial treatment of Tamil Nadu. He also questioned whether the DMK would raise the issue with the Centre and demand corrective measures.
The Congress leader’s remarks come amid growing political differences over the Centre-State relationship and the allocation of funds and other resources to Tamil Nadu.
Tagore said political parties should put the interests of the State above political considerations and ensure that issues highlighted by constitutional authorities such as the CAG were properly debated and followed up.
His comments are expected to add another dimension to the ongoing debate among the ruling alliance partners over the Centre’s approach towards Tamil Nadu.
