Madurai, Sept 12:
Law Minister Nirmal Kumar has said the DMK is certain to face defeat in the upcoming Assembly by-elections and claimed that neither the ruling party nor the AIADMK would even retain their deposits.
Speaking to reporters in Madurai, Nirmal Kumar alleged that there was no evidence to establish that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had been arrested under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA). He claimed he had evidence to prove that Stalin was not arrested under MISA.
The Minister said repeated references to MISA would only cause further damage to the DMK. He alleged that Stalin was being projected as a major political martyr despite the absence of evidence to support the claim and questioned why the detention copy relating to Stalin’s alleged arrest was destroyed after the DMK came to power.
Nirmal Kumar also questioned the DMK’s decision to field Parandaman, a resident of Egmore, in the Madurantakam constituency. He asked what connection the candidate had with Madurantakam and what benefit the party expected from the choice.
Referring to the controversial āThirumangalam formulaā, the Minister alleged that the DMK might distribute crores of rupees to voters in the by-elections, but said people would accept the money and still vote according to their choice.
He also claimed that people would simply laugh and move on while watching the protests organised by the DMK. āThe DMK’s defeat in the by-election is certain,ā he said.
