New Delhi, Sept 15:
Retail inflation rose to 4.82 per cent in August from 4.45 per cent in July, mainly due to an increase in food prices, according to data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) on Monday.
Food inflation increased to 5.95 per cent in August from 5.52 per cent in the previous month, contributing to the rise in overall consumer price inflation.
The Reserve Bank of India has projected retail inflation at 5 per cent for 2026-27, with inflation estimated at 4.7 per cent in the second quarter, 5.9 per cent in the third quarter and 5.5 per cent in the fourth quarter.
The RBI recently kept key short-term policy rates unchanged amid inflation concerns. Its mandate is to maintain inflation within a 2-6 per cent tolerance band.
