Chennai, Sept 16:
As thousands of devotees are expected to attend the Kumbabhishekam of the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai on September 17, the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) will operate 285 special buses on September 16.
Of the special services, 50 buses will operate from Chennai Kilambakkam to Madurai. Another 30 buses each will be operated from Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Ramanathapuram, Sivakasi, Rajapalayam and Theni.
In addition, 25 special buses will operate from Aruppukkottai, 10 from Virudhunagar and 20 from Dindigul, taking the total number of special services to 285.
Additional services will also be operated within the Madurai region from Thirumangalam, Melur, Thiruppuvanam, Vadipatti, Natham, Poovandi and Usilampatti. Twenty buses will operate from each of these locations.
Transport authorities said the number of special buses could be increased or adjusted depending on the travel requirements of devotees and the general public.
The special services have been arranged in view of the expected increase in passenger movement ahead of the temple’s Kumbabhishekam scheduled for September 17.
