Chennai, Sept 16:
A new 15-storey Tamil Nadu Secretariat and Assembly complex has been proposed at Pattinapakkam Foreshore Estate in Chennai at an estimated cost of ₹1,200 crore. The proposed project is also expected to include a 3.5-km elevated corridor aimed at easing traffic congestion in the area. The details of the project were highlighted recently
The proposal envisages a major government complex along the Pattinapakkam stretch, with the elevated corridor forming part of the broader infrastructure plan to improve connectivity and manage traffic movement.
The proposed Secretariat project comes against the backdrop of continuing discussions over the location and infrastructure requirements of the State’s administrative and legislative institutions.
Further details of the proposed building, including its design, facilities and implementation plans, are expected to emerge as the project moves through the relevant stages.
The proposal has also drawn attention because of its location along the city’s coastal stretch and its potential implications for traffic and urban infrastructure in south Chennai.
