Chennai, Sept 18:
Tamil Nadu recorded 244 new dengue cases in a single day on Wednesday, taking the total number of cases reported in the State so far this year to 16,334.
Nine deaths have also been reported between January 1 and September 16, according to the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.
The Health Department said the dengue situation in the State was neither unusual nor alarming. In the corresponding period last year, Tamil Nadu had reported 15,688 cases and 13 deaths, while 2024 recorded 34,339 cases and 13 deaths.
With the monsoon approaching, health officials have intensified mosquito-control measures across the State.
People have been advised to prevent water stagnation around their homes and remove potential mosquito breeding sites.
Officials have also urged people who develop fever symptoms to seek medical attention without delay.
