CHENNAI:
Residents seeking new drinking water and sewage connections in newly added areas of the Greater Chennai Corporation will have to submit their applications online through the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) portal.
Water supply and underground sewerage infrastructure has been established in several newly added areas, including parts of Manali, Madhavaram, Valasaravakkam, Alandur, Perungudi and Sholinganallur. These include Porur, Nerkundram, Mugalivakkam, Manapakkam, Nandambakkam, Pallikaranai, Madipakkam, Perungudi, Thoraipakkam, Sholinganallur, Karapakkam, Semmenchery, Uthandi and Neelankarai.
Applicants must register through the CMWSSB’s online portal and upload the required documents. The application will subsequently be examined by the concerned officials, including inspection of the premises. Applicants have also been instructed to make the prescribed payments online. If the details and documents are complete and correct, the application process is expected to be completed within 15 days. Field work for providing the connections will be taken up after payment of the applicable charges.
For individual houses up to 500 sq ft, the water and sewage connection charges are Rs 100 each. For houses up to 100 sq metres, the charge is Rs 5,000 each, while properties measuring between 101 and 200 sq metres will have to pay Rs 7,500 each. Additional charges may apply for road cutting, pipe-laying and installation of water meters.
The Board has also permitted instalment payment for eligible buildings in certain categories. For old water or sewage connections that have to be renewed or shifted, a fee of Rs 7,500 per connection will be collected. Applicants have been advised to use only the official online system for submitting applications and making payments.
