Chennai,  Sept 21:
Unidentified burglars broke into a locked house at Iyyappanthangal and allegedly stole 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 50,000 in cash.
Mohammed Kareem, who lives with his family in Iyyappanthangal, had gone to his native house in Ambur in Tirupattur district. He returned to Chennai on Sunday and reached his house at Iyyappanthangal.
He was shocked to find that the lock on the house had been broken. On entering the house, he found that the bureau in one of the rooms had been opened and the 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 50,000 kept inside were missing.
Kareem informed the police about the burglary. Police personnel who rushed to the spot inspected the house and have launched an investigation to identify and trace the gang involved in the theft. CCTV footage from the neighbourhood is also likely to be examined as part of the investigation.
