Chennai, Sept 21:
The wife of a 58-year-old Armed Reserve (AR) sub-inspector has been arrested for allegedly murdering him by setting him on fire at their residence in Nungambakkam. Police said her alleged accomplice is absconding.
The deceased, Raji, was found with burn injuries at his residence in the Lake Area of Nungambakkam on Saturday night. Nungambakkam police initially registered a case of suspicious death and began an inquiry.
During the investigation, police became suspicious of his wife, Selvarani, after she allegedly gave contradictory answers while being questioned. Further inquiry reportedly revealed that she had allegedly set Raji on fire with the assistance of a man identified as Deva.
Police have launched a search for Deva, while Selvarani is being questioned to establish the motive behind the alleged murder. The investigation is continuing.
Raji had been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in July 2025 based on a complaint involving an eight-year-old girl. His family had then alleged that the complaint was false and linked to an ongoing family
