Chennai, Sept 22:
The Coimbatore district administration has ordered the restoration of free LPG cylinder supply to 85-year-old Kamalathal, popularly known for selling idlis for ₹1.
Kamalathal of Vadivelampalayam near Thondamuthur has been selling idlis for ₹1 for around 30 years. She initially cooked the idlis using a firewood stove before switching to LPG about a decade ago. An LPG company had been supplying cylinders to her free of cost.
The free cylinder supply was stopped about two months ago, making it difficult for her to continue preparing and selling idlis at the same price. She subsequently approached the Coimbatore Collectorate seeking restoration of the assistance.
Following instructions from Minister Sampathkumar, Collector Pavan Kumar ordered that free LPG cylinders be supplied to her without interruption.
