Chennai, Sept 22:
More than 200 people are being reported with dengue infection in Tamil Nadu every day, with 228 cases recorded across the State on Sunday, according to health department figures cited in a report.
Of the 228 cases reported, 79 were from Chennai. More than 900 dengue cases have been reported in the city so far this month. The State has recorded 17,277 dengue cases during the current year, while around 2,000 patients are undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals.
Meanwhile, fever surveillance has also been intensified at Anna University after a student was diagnosed with typhoid. More than 200 students showing dengue-like symptoms underwent medical screening, with over 20 found to have low platelet counts. They were advised to return to their native places for treatment before resuming classes.
Health department officials said 29 cases of typhoid had been confirmed across Tamil Nadu on Sunday, adding to the need for continued fever surveillance as dengue and other infections remain a concern.
