New Delhi:
The Indian Railways has shelved a proposed 40-km railway line intended to connect Uri, near the Line of Control, with Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir. The decision follows concerns over the ecological impact of constructing the proposed route.
The proposed line was intended to extend rail connectivity from Baramulla towards the border region of Uri. Baramulla currently marks the northern end of the existing railway network serving the Kashmir Valley.
The decision highlights the challenges involved in expanding infrastructure in ecologically sensitive and geographically difficult areas. Authorities will have to balance connectivity and strategic considerations with environmental concerns while planning future railway projects in the region.
