Indian chess Grandmaster Divya Deshmukh has been named the Best Chess Player (Female) at the inaugural FIDE Excellence Awards, recognising her achievements over the past year.
Divya’s recognition comes after a landmark period in her career, highlighted by her victory at the Women’s World Cup. She has also been part of India’s successful run at the Chess Olympiad, where the country secured the Nona Gaprindashvili Trophy for a third consecutive time.
Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Sindarov was named the Best Chess Player (Male) at the awards. The honours recognise players for their performances and achievements in international chess during the past year.
