Chennai, Sept 29:
Dalmia Cement, in collaboration with SwitchLabs Automobiles and Energy In Motion, has deployed 24 heavy-duty electric trucks to transport bulk raw materials from Karaikal Port to its manufacturing units in Dalmiapuram and Ariyalur.
The electric fleet will transport Petcoke, slag and gypsum, replacing diesel-powered freight operations. The trucks are expected to cover nearly 2.9 million km annually and prevent an estimated 3,735 tonnes of COâ emissions each year.
Dalmia Cement and SwitchLabs have also introduced a trailer-swap model using separate tractor and trailer registration. The system allows electric tractors to interchange trailers during loading and unloading, reducing idle time and improving fleet utilisation.
The project is supported by dedicated charging infrastructure. SwitchLabs is also deploying electric tipper trucks for Dalmia Cement at its Dalmiapuram and Ariyalur operations, with both companies planning further electric mobility projects across the logistics network.
