Nagoya, Sept 30:
Tamil Nadu athlete Vithya Ramraj has achieved the distinction of winning three medals at the ongoing Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. She was part of India’s gold-winning women’s 4x400m relay team and also helped the country win silver in the mixed 4x400m relay before clinching bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles.
Vithya also broke PT Usha’s 42-year-old national record in the 400m hurdles, clocking a personal best of 54.75 seconds. She had earlier won three medals at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, held in 2023 — bronze in the 400m hurdles and silver medals in the women’s 4x400m and mixed 4x400m relays.
Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay announced a cash prize of ₹75 lakh for Vithya for her gold medal-winning performance in the women’s 4x400m relay at the Asian Games in Japan. In a social media post, he said her third medal at the Games was a matter of pride for India and Tamil Nadu.
