Gaza City, Oct 1:
Israeli strikes killed five Palestinians and injured 19 others in Gaza on Wednesday, according to officials at two hospitals, in the latest violence despite a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
The strikes hit several locations, including Gaza City and Khan Younis. One attack reportedly hit a bus, while other strikes were reported in residential areas.
The ceasefire, reached nearly a year ago, brought an end to the heaviest phase of fighting but has not stopped violence completely. Israeli strikes and other incidents have continued to be reported in the territory.
The latest casualties came amid continuing tensions over the implementation of the ceasefire and the broader political and security situation in Gaza.
The conflict has also continued to have regional economic consequences. Egypt has reported major losses in Suez Canal revenue as shipping companies have diverted vessels away from the Red Sea because of security concerns linked to the Gaza conflict.
