Chennai, Oct 1:
Enforcement of helmet rules appears to have eased at several locations in Chennai, with fewer visible traffic checkpoints and an increase in violations, according to a report.
The decline has been noticed in areas including Saidapet, Guindy, Anna Salai, Royapettah, Porur and parts of north Chennai. Traffic police, however, continue to conduct checks at select junctions.
Twenty-five people riding without helmets were killed in two-wheeler crashes in Chennai during the first six months of 2026, compared with 21 in the corresponding period last year, the report said. Traffic personnel have reportedly been instructed to book helmet violation cases electronically.
