Dubai, Oct 2:
Iran is preparing a broader military response in case the United States resumes large-scale attacks, even as Tehran continues diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing another major escalation in the region.
Iranian officials and sources familiar with military planning told Reuters that commanders are discussing possible targets, geography and the timing of any retaliation. Tehran is also considering a seven-day diplomatic proposal, although Iranian officials privately remain doubtful that a deal with Washington can be reached.
The preparations come amid continuing uncertainty over the future of the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel. Iran has been weighing how to respond to the possibility of renewed US military action while attempting to avoid a wider confrontation.
Iranian military planners are reportedly examining a response that could be broader than previous attacks. The exact targets and operational plans remain unclear.
Diplomatic efforts are continuing alongside the military preparations. The conflicting signals — preparations for retaliation on one side and negotiations on the other — have added to uncertainty across the Middle East.
The situation is also affecting global energy markets. Oil prices rose on Thursday after China suspended exports of oil products, adding to concerns about fuel supplies already affected by disruptions linked to the conflict. Brent crude rose by around 2 per cent.
