Chennai, Oct 3:
DMK president and former Chief Minister M K Stalin has accused Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay of challenging the dignity of voters in the run-up to the by-elections in Tamil Nadu, urging people in Dharapuram to vote for the party’s candidate, advocate Sukanya.
In a post on X on Friday, Stalin alleged that a candidate who had secured votes from the people had subsequently been “sold” to another party, accusing the latter of having bought the candidate through political bargaining.
“An elected candidate who sold the votes received from the people and a party that negotiated and bought the candidate — is this the party you should vote for?” Stalin asked in the post.
Targeting Vijay without naming him directly in parts of the statement, Stalin referred to him as a “Reels Chief Minister” and alleged that his government lacked the support of the majority of the people. He called on voters to respond to what he described as the Chief Minister’s arrogance and protect Dharapuram’s self-respect.
Stalin urged voters to cast their ballots for the DMK’s Rising Sun symbol on October 6 and ensure the victory of the party’s candidate, advocate Sukanya.
The DMK leader’s remarks came amid campaigning for the Dharapuram by-election, with political parties trading allegations over defections, political alliances and the conduct of the election. Stalin’s claims were part of his appeal to voters to support the DMK candidate.
