Madanapalle, Oct 3:
Reliance Industries plans to invest Rs 1 lakh crore in Andhra Pradesh to establish compressed biogas (CBG) plants, with the proposed investment expected to create more than three lakh jobs and generate nearly Rs 60,000 crore in revenue for the state over the coming decades, Reliance executive director Anant M Ambani said on Friday.
Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub and Indian School of Agriculture in Madanapalle, Ambani said the investment would support Andhra Pradesh’s transition towards cleaner energy while creating additional opportunities for farmers. He said agricultural communities that contribute to India’s food security could also play a role in strengthening the country’s energy security through the production of renewable fuels.
CBG is produced by processing organic waste such as agricultural residue, animal dung, food waste and other biomass into methane-rich gas. It can be used as an alternative to conventional natural gas in transportation, industrial and commercial applications. The initiative could also create markets for agricultural waste, generate rural employment and income, and produce bio-manure as a by-product.
Ambani said Reliance is also investing in clean-energy projects in the Rayalaseema region and exploring opportunities in advanced manufacturing. Citing Andhra Pradesh government data, he said 388 mega projects had been approved in the state since June 2024, involving investment commitments of more than Rs 14 lakh crore and potential employment for nearly 11 lakh people. About one-third of these investments are expected to be directed towards Rayalaseema, he said.
