Chennai, Oct 5:
The widening of Sardar Patel Road has been delayed with the shifting of high-tension electricity cables yet to be completed along a key stretch of the project.
The 1.85-km widening work began in December 2025 and was originally scheduled to be completed within 12 months. However, the pending relocation of HT cables has affected the pace of the project, with the work now running about two months behind schedule.
Officials are working on shifting the power infrastructure to facilitate the widening works. The project is expected to improve traffic movement along one of the important stretches connecting parts of central and southern Chennai.
The delay has highlighted the difficulties involved in coordinating road infrastructure projects with existing underground and overhead utility networks.
