Berlin, Oct 5:
Germany has announced more than €1.3 billion in fresh assistance for Ukraine during Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s visit to Kyiv, as Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure continue to intensify.
The package includes €1 billion in military assistance covering long-range weapons, combat drones and satellite technology, along with another €350 million for repairing Ukraine’s energy infrastructure ahead of winter. Germany and Ukraine also signed agreements covering security cooperation and weapons production.
Merz’s visit came amid fresh Russian strikes on Kyiv and Kharkiv. Russia has also threatened to intensify attacks following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s pledge to step up strikes against Russian oil infrastructure.
The developments have raised concerns over another difficult winter for Ukraine, with attacks increasingly targeting infrastructure critical to civilian life and energy supplies.
